OUR GUIDE TO CABO

There’s so much more to Cabo San Lucas travel than lying on the beach with a margarita in hand. The excellent climate and endless water-based activities are just the beginning for this Baja paradise. In Cabo, the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortes meet at the spot known as Land’s End, where the rocky outcroppings form the backdrop to one of Mexico’s most splendid natural wonders: El Arco. This rock arch leaping out to sea provides a dramatic welcome for those who visit Cabo San Lucas.

EAT + DRINK

Dining:

There are dozens of fine restaurants in Los Cabos, most offering dining alfresco with breathtaking views.  The attire is always casual-- no jackets or ties required.  For those who are lucky on the high seas, most restaurants will cook and serve your catch of the day.  The cuisine is wonderfully diverse.  In addition to authentic Mexican specialties and Baja’s famous fish and shrimp tacos, visitors will also enjoy Italian, French, Spanish, Asian, Pacific Rim, Continental and American Cuisine.

Nightlife:

Nightlife in Los Cabos is primarily centered in Cabo San Lucas.  The bars and restaurants offer an eclectic array of entertainment and music, from live jazz to dance tunes.  Even some of the most popular names in nightlife are represented in Los Cabos, including Hard Rock Café and the Cabo Wabo Cantina.  Other favorites include Gigglin’ Marlin, Squid Roe, Carlos ‘n Charlie’s and the Nowhere Bar.

Some of our personal favorites:

Flora Farms: Enjoy the amazing organic cuisine, sip on lavender martinis and tour the incredible grounds. Flora Farms is a little out of the way in San Jose, spanning across 10 acres of organic farm land, but definitely worth the trip!

Los Tres Gallos: The name Los Tres Gallos means “the three roosters,” paying homage to three of the most beloved Mexican stars of the silver screen. Not only is the traditional cuisine here delicious—hand-rolled tortillas, mole dishes, house-made salsas—it’s also affordable. Dine in the intimate hacienda-style courtyard shaded by tangerine and mango trees.

The Office: (Located in the Mercado or downtown on the beach) A casual place to grab a bite but the food will leave you wanting to come back! We highly recommend the shrimp quesadillas with their homemade tortillas and charcoal habanero salsa. To die for!

SEE + DO

Los Cabos is Mexico’s number-one golf resort destination.   The Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol, a Jack Nicklaus Signature course, boasts seven holes overlooking the Sea of Cortés.  A second championship layout, a Tom Weiskopf design, is scheduled to open winter 2002.  At build out, Cabo del Sol will have four courses.  Los Cabos currently has a total of seven championship golf courses.

Sport Fishing: Los Cabos is often referred to as the “Marlin Capital of the World.”  Record-breaking numbers of marlin and swordfish ranging in size from 100 pounds to well over half a ton are taken from its waters every year.  Blue and black marlin season runs from June through December, striped marlin are plentiful year-round, and sailfish are taken April through October.

Eco-tours:  The region’s abundant opportunities to observe wildlife include whale watching, snorkeling, bird watching, hikes through canyons and arroyos, mountain bike tours and kayaking.

Watersports: Scuba diving, surfing, snorkeling, parasailing, wind surfing, water skiing, sailing.

Equestrian: Horseback riding along the beach, equestrian centers, desert day trips.

Desert tours: ATV (all-terrain vehicles) and walking tours through the picturesque desert.

Spas & Fitness: Many hotels have full service European-style spas with state-of-the-art exercise facilities

El Arco & Lands End: Nature has carved some amazing formations at Los Cabos, and El Arco is perhaps the most famous. A signature icon of Los Cabos, the limestone arch carved by time, tide and wind runs down to the water’s edge and into the sea. From a distance the formation looks for all the world like a dragon, and up close the arch frames sky, sea and sand for picture-perfect photos.

Zip Lining: We did this the first time we went to Cabo together! The tour takes you through the canyons and lasts about 2 hours!

Deep Sea Fishing: Spend the day out on the water and keep whatever you catch! In the Marina there are restaurants that will take what you catch and prepare your fish however you like!

Shopping: As Los Cabos has grown, so have the number of shops, boutiques and galleries. Visitors will find everything from colorful Mexican handicrafts to high-quality pottery, arts and fine jewelry.    A new addition to Cabo San Lucas is a planned 250-store mall with movie theater, amphitheater and bowling alley.
